What Is Galvanized Steel Grating?

Galvanized steel grating refers specifically to steel grating that has undergone hot-dip galvanizing treatment. It is made from high-quality carbon steel (such as Q235B) as the base material. After being welded or pressed and locked into shape, it is immersed in a high-temperature zinc solution, allowing the surface of the steel grating to firmly adhere to a layer of zinc-iron alloy. This galvanized layer provides excellent long-term anti-corrosion and rust prevention capabilities, enabling the product to have a maintenance-free service life of up to 20-30 years in outdoor and humid industrial environments. It is the most cost-effective solution for anti-corrosion steel grating.

Material Type Characteristics & Applications
Low Carbon Steel (Q235B) The mainstream material choice, accounting for over 95% of galvanized steel grating usage. Mechanical properties fully meet industrial requirements, with optimal cost-effectiveness, and it is the best match for hot-dip galvanizing process.
High Strength Low Alloy Steel (Q345B) Used for special occasions with extremely high requirements for bearing capacity and lightweight design, such as long-span platforms. It has higher requirements for galvanizing process.

  • Extremely long corrosion resistance lifespan: The zinc layer provides cathodic protection as a sacrificial anode. Even if there are minor scratches on the surface, zinc will corrode first to protect the steel substrate. Under standard atmospheric conditions, the lifespan can reach 20-30 years.
  • Extremely high cost-effectiveness: One-time investment, long-term maintenance-free (no frequent painting required), and the total life cycle cost is extremely low.
  • Strong and durable: The base material is steel structure, with high bearing capacity and good impact resistance.

Core Manufacturing Process: "Substrate Molding + Hot-Dip Galvanizing"

The production of galvanized steel grating involves two core steps:

Step 1: Manufacturing of Steel Grid Plate Base Board
  • Resistance welding forming (main process): The load-bearing flat steel and the crossbar (twisted square steel) are welded together as a whole using a large resistance welding machine. This process is highly efficient and has high strength.
  • Locking press forming: It is connected through mechanical methods of punching and locking compression, without welding points, and the shape is smooth.
Step 2: Hot-Dip Galvanizing Treatment (Key to Corrosion Prevention)

This is the core process that gives the steel grating board its lasting vitality. The procedure is meticulous:

  • Acid pickling and rust removal: Immerse the welded steel grating plates in a hydrochloric acid tank to thoroughly remove the oxide scale and rust from the surface.
  • Water washing for plating assistance: After cleaning with the acid solution, immerse it in a zinc ammonium chloride plating aid solution to prevent re-oxidation of the substrate and enhance the adhesion of the zinc layer.
  • Drying: Dry the steel grating plates to avoid zinc spitting during the immersion zinc process.
  • Hot-dip galvanizing: Immerse the dried steel grating plates in molten zinc at approximately 450°C, where complex iron-zinc metallurgical reactions occur, forming a dense zinc-iron alloy layer on the steel surface.
  • Cooling: After removal, let it cool naturally or cool with water to form a shiny silver-gray final appearance.
  • Quality inspection and adjustment: Check the thickness and uniformity of the coating, and make adjustments for a few zinc nodules.
